Center for Gender and Development has given training to female Students

Ethiopian Civil Service College Center for Gender and Development gave a half day training to the college’s female students on October 8, 2009.

The theme of the training was Strategies for the college success: study skills and stress management, and assertiveness skills.

In the training, the students were introduced to the different study skills like SQ4R and time management and exam preparation. They were also given highlights on causes, symptoms and effects of stress and strategies to reduce it. Moreover they were given explanations on assertiveness, aggressive and passive style of communications; why many females in Ethiopia are not assertive, the need to be assertive, and how to develop assertiveness skills.

The training was held in an interactive mode that the students participated actively.

IPMDS offered trainings

The Ethiopian Civil Service College Institute of Public Management and Development Studies has given an eight day training on Transformational Leadership, Financial Management & Resource Mobilization, and Communication Skills & Public Relations for about sixty regional youth federation leaders drawn from all regional states including Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa Administration from October 7-15, 2009.

According to Ato Ayele Bekele, Training Coordinator of IPMDS, the main objective of the training was to build the capacities and skills of the youth federation leaders in leadership, planning, budgeting and communication.

Ato Mesfin Lemma, Director of Institute of Public Management and Development Studies, said in the closing ceremony of the training that Ethiopian Civil Service College is one of the institutions which are leading the capacity building efforts in the country. He said, had it not been for constraints of time, he would have stayed with them and followed their discussion. He appreciated their enthusiasm and urged them to mount up the knowledge which they acquired during their stay in the college by referring to all available resources. He finally handed over certificates to the participants.

In a related development, the Institute has given training on Business Process Reengineering for about 11 staff members of Nazareth Tractor Assembly Plant. The training was given from Sep. 28-Oct.2, 2009.

 

Student service offered training to its staffs

Ethiopian Civil Service College Student Service Support Process in Collaboration with Catering & Tourism Training Institute has given a seven day training to 86 cooking staffs of the college on Catering, Hospitality and Policies and strategies from September 18 to 25, 2009.

Addressing on the concluding ceremony of the training, Ato Zeru Getnet, Student Service Support Business Process Owner, said capacity building is the collage’s main objective. Thus providing trainings for the staff members is one way of achieving the objective, he added. To this end, we planned to give further trainings on computer usage for dormitory service team members, and on Ethics, leadership and other important areas for team leaders, said Ato Zeru.He finally told trainees that the knowledge they gained from the training should be a means to maintain quality, and cost-effective services.

Dr. Haile Michael Aberra, the College President on his part said every one of us should put in practice all knowledge and skills that we acquired and work hard for the development of the College in particular and the development of the Country in general.

Finally the Catering & Hospitality team members reflect their feelings in poems and presents. They presented gifts to Student Service Support Business Process Owner Ato Zeru Getnet,and to team leaders, model workers and trainers.

The training is hoped to help the participants in establishing team sprit among themselves and satisfy their customers by providing quality and better services.

 

Institute of Tax and Customs Administration

Ethiopian Civil Service College Institute of Tax and Customs Administration in Collaboration with The Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority (ERCA) has given the second round Training of Trainers (TOT) for about 10 ERCA and 7 ECSC staff members from Sep.7-10,2009.

The training was scheduled based on the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority and Crown Agents Consultant Firm of the United Kingdom on building the capacity of Ethiopian consultants especially in Tax and Customs areas. This agreement will last for seven months. During these times the Crown Agents Consultants will provide professional support by facilitating the transfer of knowledge and skills to the Ethiopian staffs through training and consultancy.

According to Ato Andualem Admassie, trainer and Program Manager of ITCA, the main objective of the training was to build the capacities of the Consultant’s training and consultancy skills. After attending the training, the participants are expected to develop their consultancy skill and contribute a lot in the area.
